Intercept Progress

We've settled into a steady routine at Intercept and blog posts have been sparse.

There has been amazing progress though.

When we first started, in our mission statement we said we wanted to spread the word about textile rescue. We are happy to report that there are now seven other operations, in some way inspired and mentored by Intercept. They are:

Nest in Orewa

ReNew in Kerikeri

FIXation in Russell

Fabric ResQ in Tasman

Baby Intercept at Plunket Whangarei

Fabric Rescue in Matakana

Revive Hive in the Gold Coast, Australia

Plus there is Ano in Kaitaia, which started on their own and are doing wonderful things.

Hunt all of these out on Facebook - especially if they're in your area - you might want to join them!

Intercept continues to steam ahead, with sales jumping by 28.5% in the last financial year from the previous year.

We now have an enlarged and more efficient sorting area in the back of the Salvation Army Family Store in Whangarei, where we work alongside the SA team.

The future looks rosy as second-hand sales continue to challenge new retail, especially in the realm of fast fashion.

The majority of our sales come from washing and mending top quality pieces to bring them back to great saleable condition, plus we have a great team of makers who create items from our rescued materials. It has been a fabulous winter for knitwear sales. We are so delighted to be able to save so many of these great items from what would have been their demise.

A large part of the textile rescue success is due to sending what Intercept can't use to The Clothing Shed, Whangarei, from where it finds its way into the community. Our combined effort means that the Whangarei SA Family store has one of the lowest percentages of textile waste out of all of the NZ Salvation Army Stores.

Thank you all for your support - onwards and upwards!
